PENNSYLVANIA SKI RESORTS WELCOME SPRING WITH MORE SNOW, SPECIAL EVENTS

White Haven, PA – March 2018 – With all the recent storms, it appears Winter weather is hanging on and conditions could not be better for skiing! Skiers rejoice, there is still plenty of fresh snow and even more time to hit the slopes this season. Whether you’re looking for a weekend staycation or an action-packed Spring Break vacation, now is a great time to visit your favorite Pennsylvania Ski Area Resort. Crowds tend to be smaller this time of year and there are a lot of fun events to enjoy, too, from Pond Skimming, Spring Carnivals and Cardboard Box Races, to St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations and Easter Egg Hunts. Here are just a few of the events taking place this Spring from your friends at the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association (SkiPA).

Military Appreciation Weekend

In an effort to honor the brave men and women defending our freedom and our great Nation, Shawnee Mountain is pleased to announce Military Appreciation Weekend Friday, Saturday & Sunday, March 16, 17 & 18, 2018. As a special "Thank You" all active Military and their immediate family (spouse & children 18 years and under) will receive FREE Lift Tickets and Ski or Snowboard Rentals for any or all of the 3 days. Spring Fling Weekend – Cardboard Box Race

Grab the family and head to Bear Creek Mountain for Spring Fling Weekend! Kids will have a chance to engineer their own racing machine made out of cardboard, duct tape, paint and zip ties. Then, pilot it down the track in an elimination format until the fastest sled prevails. Prizes awarded for both the race champion and the most creative sled. No entry fees. Race registration begins at 9 a.m. in the pit area at the bottom of tubing. Sled inspection takes place at 11:30 a.m. in the pit area at the bottom of tubing and racing starts at noon. St. Patrick’s Day Costume Parade and Pond Skim

It’s time for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Costume Parade at Blue Knob. Head to the resort in your best costume and have a chance to win a 2018-2019 season pass. St. Patrick’s Day at Blue Mountain

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the slopes at Blue Mountain. Enjoy a Shamrock Hunt on the slopes. Find the shamrock and turn it in at Last Run Lounge for prizes including swag bags, gift cards, Summer Adventure packs and more. Annual Spring Carnival

The Annual Spring Carnival at Elk Mountain has a variety of fun for all ages. The day kicks off with the Cardboard Box Racing at the West Slope followed by a Snow Sculpture Contest and Slalom Race. At noon there is a slope style competition in the Stompin’ Grounds Terrain Park and a costume parade on the West Slope, plus fun, games and music at the Winter Garden Lounge. Spring Fling Weekend – Pond Skimming

Head over to Bear Creek on March 18 for a fun-filled afternoon of Pond Skimming, music, food and drink specials. Strap on your gear and attempt to make it across the pond. Participants who clear the pond will be entered to win an unlimited season pass for the 2018/19 season. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the Guest Services Lobby. Event begins at noon by the skimming pond. For those not interested in participating, there will also be a DJ, outdoor bar in the Rock Garden and food. Event is FREE with purchase of a lift ticket. Hidden Valley is hosting a special party to say thanks to all the season pass holders. King of the Mountain Snowmobile Hill Climb

The Annual “King of the Mountain” Snowmobile Hill Climb hosted by Pennsylvania Sleds and Treads will take place at Ski Sawmill. Little” Big Air Competition

Shawnee Mountain will host a “Little” Big Air competition to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) on March 18 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event will be open to skiers and riders ages 8 and up. A medium jump will be set up at the bottom of the Bushkill trail. Competitors will have a 2-hour, jam-style session per age bracket to show off their best grabs and spins. All of the entry fees will be donated to the AFSP in the name of Cody Bensel. Cody was a long-time Shawnee Mountain employee and advocate for the AFSP. Crazy costumes and outfits are encouraged. Easter Bunny Brunch & Egg Hunt

Round up the kiddos and have a chance to spend the day with the East Bunny himself. Enjoy a hearty breakfast brunch and take a photo with the Easter Bunny then let the kids head outside for a fun-filled egg hunt. Full of prizes, candy and more. Parking Lot Party & Pond Skimming

Celebrate Spring at Camelback and join in the fun with a parking lot party, pond skimming competition, Tailgating Judging and Cardboard Box Splash Down Derby. The day kicks off with the Parking Lot Party at 9 a.m., which features grilling, live music games, cook-offs, raffles and prizes including season passes. There is a $20 fee for each parking space, which will be donated to the local dog rescues. At 12 p.m. the Pond Skimming event kicks off. Families are invited to break out the skis, snowboards, floaties and crazy costumes for the annual pond skim competition. Prizes will be awarded for the best skim and the best costume. Registration will take places from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Spots are limited so all guests must be pre-registered. At 2 p.m. the Tailgate Judging begins. This competition is the perfect opportunity for tailgate masters to show off their talents. Prizes will be awarded for the best overall tailgate, theme and decorations, fan favorite and food favorite. Finally, the day wraps up with a Cardboard Box Splash Down Derby at 3 p.m. Prepare your boxes and your teammates to speed down the hill with style. Prizes will be awarded for fastest and most creative. Registration will take place from 12 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Teams are limited to 4 members in the box, all guests must be pre-registered. Pond Skim, 11 a.m.

Pond Skim 2018, presented by New Belgium Brewing, at Seven Springs is sure to go down with a splash at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018! Conditions are favorable for a good time and goggle tans. Grab a cold one at the Foggy Goggle and catch all of the action from the Foggy Deck as more than 100 crazy skiers and snowboarders brave the icy pond skim water and try to impress the judges with the Best Skim, Costume and Splash. Emcee’s Mikey and Big Bob from the KISS Morning Freak Show and DJs Mike Ley, Digital Dave and Cake will keep the Pond Party going at the Goggle all day.
